Rockhampton Hockey Association's new 4-11 years Junior Hockey program, QuikStix, will launch in 2018 !

The existing club based Rookey program has been replaced by QuikStix in 2018. The reasons for the change are outlined in the QuikStix presentation on the RHA web-site http://www.rockhamptonhockey.org

QuikStix is a program designed for young children to learn the basic skills of hockey, to make friends, have fun and hopefully build a lifelong love for the game of hockey! The program is open to all new and existing players aged 11 and under. Existing club affiliated players aged 9, 10 & 11 in 2018, can choose to register and play in either the QuikStix program or the Youth Club based competition.

Park Avenue Brothers Hockey Club follow the ideals to provide an opportunity for children, young people and adults to play organised hockey in a safe and friendly environment.

HOCKEY: Coach Steven Evans says a focus on fitness is starting to reap rewards for the Wanderers A-grade women, who toppled CQ League leaders Park Avenue Brothers on Saturday.

Kirra-Lee Monkhouse scored a double and Rowlande Williams got on the score sheet once as Wanderers halted Parks' four-game winning streak with a commanding 3-0 victory.

Evans said ball control was a key factor in the success.

"It was a good win. They've slowly been improving over the year, which I think is due to their fitness,” he said.

"We transferred the ball around the back really effectively. I think we made Parks do a lot more running, which gave us good go-forward.

"We probably would have had about 70% of possession. They got a few breakaways, which caused a few issues, but other than that I can't fault our girls at all.”

Evans, who is in his second season as coach, said it was a great team effort and it had the girls primed for a tilt at the top spot.

"Parks were on top of the ladder so to beat them puts us up there now,” he said.

"We definitely want to push for that No.1 spot in the CQ League.”

Parks coach Robert Sweeney said while the team tried hard in most areas, it failed to capitalise on its opportunities.

"We'll go back and do some hard work at training and hope for a better performance when we meet Souths in our next fixture,” he said.

"We've had two good wins against them so hopefully we can get back into the swing of things then.”

Sweeney said Jordyn Watson worked tirelessly in defence, while young duo Ebony O'Brien and Cassidy Knuth toiled hard up front.

HOCKEY: Park Avenue Brothers A-grade men will look to build on last weekend's monumental win when they tackle Sparks at Kalka Shades today.

They broke an 18-month drought with a gritty 3-1 win over Southern Suburbs last Saturday, their first since their semi-final victory of 2015.

It was a long time coming but the club was able to celebrate a double first grade victory, with its A-grade women scoring their fourth win on the trot against Gladstone Souths.

Men's coach Gary Lee said while the team had registered a number of draws, it felt good to finally break through for a win.

"It wasn't the best performance of the year but we stuck in there and got the much-desired result,” he said.

"It was nil-all at half-time and we knew we could grind out a win and we did.

"Hopefully we can build on that. Success does breed success; once you taste victory you want a little bit more of it.”

Father and son duo David and Lachlan Plant both scored in the long-awaited win, with young gun Kosia Williams slamming home the third to seal the result.

Parks' experienced goalkeeper David Wills, who played with a broken finger, was stand-out for Parks, continually thwarting Souths' attack in the closing stages of the game.

Lee said today's opponents, Sparks, got the win the last time the two teams met and would provide a good test again.

He is calling on his players to get the basics right, stay in the contest and take their opportunities when they come.

"We are starting to get the same personnel on the park and in the same positions,” he said.

"We've certainly got the talent there, it's a matter of everyone committing to the task at hand.”

Meanwhile, the Parks women extended their winning streak to four games with a 4-1 victory over Gladstone Souths.

Coach Robert Sweeney said while it was good to get the points, the team did not display the same desperation and intensity it had in previous weeks.

Get Started Vouchers is one of the funding programs that comprise the Queensland

Government’s Get in the Game initiative to support sport and active recreation at the grassroots

level.

Get Started Vouchers assists children and young people who can least afford, or may otherwise benefit from, joining a sport or active recreation club. Eligible children and young people can apply for a voucher1 valued up to $150, which can be redeemed at a sport or recreation club that is registered for Get Started Vouchers.

2017 is your year to hook into Hockey. Great for all ages and skill levels, it is the perfect family sport. See you at our sign on day

Come and join us for the combined Senior and Junior Sign on for the 2017 Season. There will be mini games to try out once you have signed on. This year for the first time, we will have an EFTPOS machine available for sign on and payments throughout the season. There will also be a free Sausage Sizzle for all those who are signing on commencing at 4:30pm.
